Symbol of scales is made of stones on the cliff “God Loves . . . Justice!” Today we are going to look at God’s love for justice and what it actually is. . . I. Justice and God’s People Psalm 37:28 - Read verse, 28 For the Lord loves justice and does not forsake His godly ones; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off. - The Lord loves justice - Justice aligns our decisions with the truth and this is what His passion for mankind originates from - But there are two sides to justice. It protects the righteous and separates the wicked - Regarding His godly ones: *They are not forsaken-Remembered. Things will be set right for those who follow Him * They are preserved forever - Comfort - Temporary vs. Eternal - The descendants of the wicked will be cut off - This is justice. They receive the results of their choices – It’s not a vicious act by God - Justice acknowledges the truth and acts accordingly II. The Justice He Brings Isaiah 42:1-4 (Matt12:18-21) - Read Isaiah 42:1-4 - We cannot have a conversation about justice without talking about Jesus * My chosen one * My souls delights in Him * I put my Spirit upon Him - Jesus will establish a time of true justice - Millennial kingdom - His rule will not b about being the loudest-Contrast w/today’s campaigns - He will be compassionate - A bruised reed He will not break. A dimly burning wick He will not extinguish - He recognizes value in spite of our pain or being burned out - The justice He brings aligns with the Father’s heart and sees the hearts of people - This is what justice is about III. Justice and Heart Luke 11:42 - Read verse - What we have here is a conversation about selective obedience - They were obedient in the area of tithing - Mint, rue, and herbs - But they disregarded justice and the love of God - Justice leads us to the love of God - We are responsible for our choices, but God made a way of escape - They should have done both-Tithed and shared the message of justice and God’s love - Part of the reason God loves justice is because it helps us recognize our need for God’s love CONCLUSION - The justice of God means . . . *He will not forget about you - Many times we feel forgotten especially when things aren’t going our way or our emotions are all over the place - You are not forgotten * We can count on Him to do the right thing - We don’t ever have to doubt that what He is doing or will do will be the right thing - This allows us to rest in Him * His justice prepares hearts to hear the gospel - This is part of the gospel story - Without this understanding we don’t recognize our need for His grace - The justice of God changes our lives!
